Chief Warrant Officer C.J. Hayden, CD
Chief Warrant Officer Hayden began as a private in 1989 in Winnipeg, Manitoba with The Fort Garry Horse. He was born in Winnipeg in 1972 where he was raised and educated until he moved to Petersfield, Manitoba in 2009. He joined The Fort Garry Horse in 1989, and was promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and appointed as Regimental Sergeant-Major of The Fort Garry Horse in November 2013.
As a Junior Non-commissioned member, CWO Hayden was employed in the Recce Squadrons of both The Royal Canadian Dragoons and the Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) in various capacities. In 1992 he served in ‘C’ Coy of 3 Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry on Roto 1 UNPROFOR in Croatia. In 2000 he was awarded the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal by the Governor General at the inaugural ceremony in Ottawa. He has participated in numerous domestic operations, most recently as the Company Sergeant-Major for the Domestic Response Company on the 2011 Manitoba flood. In 2012 he had the distinct honour of being the first Squadron Sergeant-Major for the newly formed 31 Engineer Squadron. When the 38 Canadian Brigade Group Battle School was stood up in 2013, he was assigned as the first Company Sergeant-Major for ‘B’ Company. Most recently he was the Regimental Sergeant-Major of The Fort Garry Horse.
While serving as a part-time reservist, CWO Hayden is employed as a computer technician with the Winnipeg School Division.
CWO Hayden is married to Leisa and has two daughters, Samantha (9) and Rachael (5). His hobbies include fishing, camping, hiking, and gardening.
